In addition to Summer College Mentor responsibilities (see the Mentor job description for more information), the Head Mentor will assume an additional leadership role within the residence. Head Mentors provide logistical support to the House Director (HD) of their residence and serve as a leader for other Summer College residential student staff.
The Mentor position incorporates elements of an RA, NSO leader, tutor and advisor, supporting student development individually and as a community. Summer College Mentors live-in the residences and are the visible summer role models and leaders for Summer College students. Mentors help develop educational opportunities that complement and extend classroom learning, in addition to planning recreational and fun activities.
SARC Program Coordinator
The Program Coordinator provides administrative and program support to Summer Academic Resource Center (SARC) leadership and staff. S/he is supervised by the SARC Tutor Manager and works with the other members of the SARC team to ensure that the academic needs of the Stanford summer population are met. This person must be detail-oriented and comfortable organizing information, data, and schedules. The Program Coordinator must be an exceptional administrator, ready to support the academic success of nearly 1500 students.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Admissions and Academic Support, the Tutor Manager has oversight over the day-to-day operations of the Summer Tutor Program, tutor supervision, weekly programming, and ensuring that the need of special populations are met. The Tutor Manager must be an exceptional administrator, ready to focus on program leadership and staff oversight, and take charge of the programming seeking to support the academic success of nearly 1500 students.
Reporting to the SARC Tutor Manager, Summer Tutors often work in multiple subject areas and are assigned students according to academic subject. In addition to holding regular drop-in group tutoring sessions, tutors design, promote, and implement academic workshops and study sessions. Tutors serve as academic role models for students.
